CM at the centre of it all

Laurels were heaped on Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the unveiling of veteran film personality AV Meiyappa Chettiyar's statue, the inaugural of the new building for Tamil Film Producers Council and at the foundation stone laying function for the new complex for South India Film Chamber.

Karunanidhi recalled his association with AVM Productions. Thanking the famed production house for introducing several talents in the filmdom, he recalled that AVM had the guts to produce former Chief Minister Anna's novel - Oru Iravu.

'The production house celebrating its 60th year personifies hard work and dedication,' the Chief Minister commended.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Haasan fondly recalled his association with AVM. Thanking Karunanidhi for showering concessions on Tamil film industry, he said, 'it is unfortunate that some few film personalities had criticized him badly.'

Kamal urged the filmwallahs to show respect to the veteran litterateur and a good human being considering his vast experience.

Veteran director K Balachander, president of Tamil Film Producers Council Rama Narayanan, vice president of SIFCC Keyar, members of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka Film Chambers heaped encomiums on Karunanidhi.

AVM Saravanan rendered a vote of thanks.

A host of film personalities including M S Viswanathan, Nepolean, Dhanush, Jeyam Ravi, Editor Mohan, Jay Agash, Kushboo, FEFSI Vijayan, Ramesh Khanna among others participated in the function.
