Sanjay Gupta takes over KURBANI

Feroz Khan's 1980 blockbuster Qurbani remake is reportedly going to be directed by Sanjay Gupta.

Feroz Khan had grand plans of casting his son Fardeen and Saif Ali Khan in the roles originally played by himself and Vinod Khanna. This is one of his dreams to remake Qurbani, which is now titled Kurbani. Sources reveal that if Gupta hadn't come forward to take on the responsibility, the project would have gone into the cold storage.

Sanjay Gupta is a die-hard Feroz Khan fan and this remake is his way of paying tribute to the cinema of 1980s that he has always admired. But Khan was so much impressed by Gupta's enthusiasm that he decided to produce the new Kurbani jointly with him.

Presently, Fardeen is slated to step into his father's role. The stars to play the roles originally played by Vinod Khanna, Zeenat Aman and Amjad Khan have yet to be decided. Gupta had the choice of casting Vinod's and Amjad's sons but he found the idea too gimmicky. However, he is not too keen about it. What is likely though is that Mallika Sherawat will play Zeenat's role.

Interestingly, some of Qurbani's original music by Kalyanji-Anandji and Biddu, including 'Aap Jaisa Meri Koi Zindagi Mein Aaye', will be retained. Final confirmation is yet to be made by both the parties.
